Role summary
This role is for a Senior Information Governance Officer within Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. You will manage a small team processing information access requests under UK GDPR and FOI Act 2000, ensuring statutory deadlines are met. The position requires excellent communication, staff management, and computer skills, with a focus on accuracy and independent work. Full training in data protection and freedom of information law is provided.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and support the department to meet its objectives and review performance and set standards for all staff under your line management.
- Identify individual training and development needs and promote continued personal and professional development.
- Be responsible for the monitoring of sickness and annual leave within the department.
- Be responsible for correct management of disciplinary and grievance issues within the administrative and clerical staff in line with Trust policy.
- Ensure that a robust induction process is in place for all new and temporary and permanent members of staff joining the department.
- Prepare job descriptions, person specifications, recruit and induct staff in line with Trust policies and procedures.
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Experience in managing staff - including performance management, managing sickness absence and disciplinary issues, managing resource and financial budgets.
- Good IT skills, including keyboard skills and experience of Microsoft Office packages and bespoke databases, preferably including computerised hospital administration systems.
- Experience of working effectively as part of a team
- Experience of working in Health Records department, and knowledge and understanding of current records management guidance and targets.
- Experience in change management.
- A thorough understanding of: The Data Protection Act 2018, The Access to Health Records Act 1990, The Freedom of Information Act 2000, The Environmental Information Regulations 2004, Confidentiality: The NHS Code of Practice, Records Management: The NHS Code of Practice
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate over the telephone with a wide range of individuals including staff and patients.
- Thorough understanding of Registration Authority processes
- Ability to plan and organise workload under own initiative.

- Experience of working in a customer focussed environment
- Experience in recruitment.

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting for an exciting and challenging role, as a Senior Information Governance Officer.
The Information Governance Department processes all applications to access information made under the provisions of the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Working with other Senior Information Governance Officers, you will manage a small team of Officers helping to process requests for information, preparing, checking and making disclosures within statutory deadlines.
You will need to be hard working, creative and show flexibility when required to effectively manage the workload of Information Governance Officers.
You will need to prioritise tasks, often in the face of competing demands and have an understanding of how the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000 are applied to these requests.
