Role summary
This role involves providing comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the Diabetes & Endocrine team at North Tyneside General Hospital. The successful candidate will handle transcription, manage diaries, arrange meetings, and communicate with GPs and patients. It requires excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills, along with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Knowledge of IT packages is essential, and transcription knowledge is desirable.
Key responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive secretarial service to consultant(s) and their team.
- Manage diaries, arrange/minute meetings, communication with GPs & patients.
- Perform advanced typing & transcription of clinical & non-clinical documents.
- Support Lead Secretary with induction/training of new staff.
- Allocate work to Band 2 staff.
Essential criteria
- RSA 3/OCR or equivalent or relevant typing/word processing experience
- Significant experience undertaking secretarial duties
Desirable criteria
- ECDL / advanced ECDL
- GCSE English Language grade C or above or equivalent qualification
- AMSPAR Diploma (or equivalent experience)
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology & procedures
- Experience in working in NHS
- Medical secretary training
- Have an awareness of need for confidentiality in accordance with both the Data Protection Act and national/local guidelines

Job summary
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our busy Diabetes & Endocrine team as a Team Secretary based at North Tyneside General Hospital.

Main duties of the job
To provide a full secretarial service to Diabetes & Endocrine team.
The successful candidate will provide transcription, administrative and secretarial support service to the team. The post holder must be able to use own initiative, work under pressure, keep to strict deadlines and have excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge of IT packages and applications is essential. Transcription knowledge desirable but training will be provided. ECDL, knowledge of PAS, SystmOne and previous experience of working within the healthcare environment would be desirable.
