Role summary
This role is for an experienced Accredited Clinical Coding Auditor to lead and shape the Clinical Coding service at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. You will be responsible for monitoring key performance and quality indicators, conducting internal and external coding audits, and mentoring trainee coders. The position involves supporting the strategic development of the department and ensuring maximum accuracy and productivity within the coding team. Flexible working, including working from home three days a week, is an option.
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or equivalent/equivalent experience.
- Coding Foundation Diploma including specialty workshops: ? Neoplasm ? Vascular ? Obstetrics ? T & O ? Refresher course
- Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification, ACC
- Report Writing course
- Completion of the NHS Digital Clinical Coding Auditor Programme
- Evidence of Continuing professional development to postgraduate diploma equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Other relevant qualification e.g. health sciences, clinical qualification.
- Experience of using Patient Administrations Systems and coding software e.g. Medicode.
- Provision of expert coding advice on coding rules to all levels within the Trust.
- Demonstrable and extensive practical experience with standard clinical coding schemes (ICD and OPCS)
- Excellent understanding of PbR
- Comprehensive knowledge of coding rules and classifications.
- Use MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint to an expert level.
- Demonstrable and extensive understanding of Anatomy and Physiology and medical terminology.
- In depth knowledge of HRGs (Health Resource Group)
- Excellent organisational, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to analyse and interpret complex information.
- Excellent interpersonal/influencing skills.
- Ability to prioritise and evaluate options for promoting the business opportunities for training.
- Successfully manage conflicting demands and achieve outcomes.
- Ability to work to deadlines in a pressurised environment
- To judge from textural information the accurate coding hierarchy of coding with local practices.
- An inquiring mind with willingness to learn new skills to high standard.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Accredited Clinical Coding Auditor to play a key role in shaping the future of our Clinical Coding service. This is an exciting time to join the Trust as we move towards a new EPR system and embrace more digital and agile ways of working.
You will bring strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a passion for quality improvement. As a senior member of the team, you will act as a role model for excellence, supporting both day-to-day operations and the strategic development of the service.
There is opportunity for flexible working that could include working from home three days as part of the working week; this would be discussed at interview.
The candidate will also manage the quality and performance targets assuring maximum accuracy and productivity levels within the Coding Team both for coding quality purposes and in support of key performance indicators.
