Role summary
An enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist is sought to join the Older Adult Acute Inpatient Service in Doncaster. This role involves providing high-quality, person-centred psychological services to older adults with acute mental health difficulties within a multidisciplinary team. The post offers robust continuing professional development through supervision and training. The successful candidate will be HCPC registered and passionate about improving the lives of older adults.
Key responsibilities
- Provide a range of assessment and intervention work through established clinical pathways.
- Support and embed formulation within the service and help colleagues understand and use it for clinical interventions.
- Complete psychological assessments, formulations, and interventions across various clinical presentations.
- Work at both systemic and individual levels.
- Support the learning of others in the team through teaching and training.
Essential criteria
- Doctorate in Clinical Psychology as accredited by the BPS. Or working towards this.
- HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist (upon qualification)
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Registration with BPS
- Post doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
- Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
- Experience in the designated clinical specialism
- Liaison and joint working with statutory, voluntary and private sector agencies
- Research and development
- Active participation in quality and service improvement initiatives
- Commitment to multi-disciplinary working
- Project Management
- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision
- Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
- Demonstrate further specialist training/experience working as a specialist clinical psychologist
- Exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care as a care co-ordinator and leader of a multidisciplinary team
- Teaching, training, clinical supervision
- Evidence- based practice relevant to the role
- Risk assessment and risk management
- Clinical governance
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health and its implications for clinical practice

- Undertake complex multiagency working and liaise with multiple systems
- Utilise psychometric tests competently
- Provide effective teaching, training and clinical supervision for the multidisciplinary team.
- Identify, provide and promote appropriate interventions / means of support for carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and challenging behaviours.
- Utilise appropriate clinical governance mechanisms within own work.
- Use approved breakaway techniques
- Demonstrate effective keyboard skills
- Use multimedia materials for presentations in professional, academic and public settings.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to join our team. We are an Older Adult Acute Inpatient Service within Rotherham Doncaster & South Humber NHS Foundation Trust and based in Doncaster.
The post is offered is a Band 7 preceptorship opportunity or at an 8A dependant on experience.
The service provides a high-quality person-centred service for people with acute mental health difficulties. The service offers a full multidisciplinary approach and this post will be integral to the team.
This post will offer a varied experience that will provide robust continuing professional development through clinical supervision, reflective practice and training opportunities.
Suitable candidates should be HCPC registered and have a determination to improve the lives of older adults with acute mental health difficulties. Prior experience in working with severe mental health problems is essential and experience of working with older adults is desirable. Good interpersonal skills and ability to relate well with this clinical group is also essential.
The successful applicant will be managed by and offered clinical supervision from the Consultant Clinical Psychologist in the service and also the Psychological Professions
