Role summary
This role involves working as a Senior Occupational Therapist within the Stroke Service, providing advanced patient assessment and therapeutic interventions to help patients regain maximum function and independence. The post holder will evaluate service provision, propose improvements, and act as a resource for other disciplines. Key responsibilities include planning, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating Occupational Therapy services, undertaking advanced assessments, and supervising junior staff and students.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake a supporting role in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Occupational Therapy Service.
- Take an active role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the Stroke service with complex presentations.
- Work as an autonomous practitioner, maintaining up-to-date records in line with policy and HCPC guidelines.
- Supervise, teach, and appraise junior Occupational Therapists, Assistants, students, and other multi-disciplinary team members.
- Keep up to date with developments in stroke rehabilitation, undertake audit, and participate in research.
- Represent Occupational Therapy at MDT meetings.
Essential criteria
- Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Relevant post graduate training for area of work
- State registration with HCPC
- Significant experience of working in a stroke speciality.
- Demonstrate broad knowledge and application of current best practice in Occupational Therapy
- Demonstrate application of the Occupational Therapy process with defined client groups
- Demonstrate applied knowledge of treatment techniques relevant to improve and maintain Occupational Performance and Processing for the defined client group.
- Demonstrate applied knowledge of effective planning and coordination of treatment packages
- Demonstrate understanding of team dynamics
- Demonstrate ability to effectively use computer software to support Occupational Therapy interventions
- Demonstrate applied knowledge of current legislation
- Documented evidence of Continuing professional development
- Demonstrate applied knowledge of Health, safety and risk awareness
- Demonstrate current clean UK driving licence, access to a car with business insurance.
- Demonstrated ability to complete complex physical skills required, involving the manipulation of objects and people with narrow margins for error. E.g. manual handling
- Demonstrated ability to exert moderate physical effort for several short periods during the working day. E.g. moving & handling service users with mechanical aids including hoists. Manoeuvring service users into position for treatment and personal care purposes. Moving & handling heavy pieces of adaptive equipment.

Job summary
To work as a Senior Occupational Therapist within the Stroke Service, providing advanced patient assessment and therapeutic intervention for those patients admitted to the Service.
This post is vital to facilitate as far as possible each client's return to maximum function and independence through a range of therapeutic interventions.
