Role summary
This role is for a highly motivated Endoscopy Practitioner to work in Day Surgery and Endoscopy Units at Brecon and Llandrindod Hospital, based at Brecon Hospital. The practitioner will assist endoscopists during procedures, provide specialised patient care before, during, and after procedures, and manage patient admissions and discharges. The position requires excellent communication skills to ensure high standards of patient care and supports training opportunities within the unit. The main purpose is to deliver the highest standard of direct patient care for those undergoing endoscopic procedures, focusing on patient safety and dignity.
Key responsibilities
- Assist endoscopists during a range of endoscopic procedures.
- Provide specialised patient care before, during, and after endoscopic procedures.
- Admit and discharge patients from the unit.
- Ensure the provision of the highest standard of direct patient care.
- Support patients with emphasis on patient safety and dignity.
- Work in practitioner-led areas such as pre-assessment and discharge.
- Manage post-discharge problems and link with other services and departments.
Essential criteria
- NMC/HCPC registration
- Evidence of current professional development
- Knowledge of general medical conditions
- Working knowledge of multidisciplinary team
- Working knowledge of clinical governance procedure
- Knowledge of audit and research
- Organisational, interpersonal and operational skills needed for post i.e., management of resources, planning and delivery of direct patient care
- Ability to produce written and verbal reports pertinent to the post i.e., individual patient and ward documentation
- Gather data with Sphere od responsibility
- Ability to work at different sites within the Health Board
- Good communication skills, approachable. Must be able to communicate effectively with small groups as well as individuals
- Must be able to undertake duties of the post
- Proven organisational and time management skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills with patients, relatives, and other members of the multidisciplinary team alike
- Demonstrate empathy and understanding to others
- Demonstrate effective non-verbal communication skills i.e. effective listening skills, positive body language
- Demonstrate an excellent standard of written communication skills/ literacy
- Demonstrate excellent standard of Record Keeping in line with the NMC/HCPC Standards of Record Keeping Document
- Demonstrate a positive and caring attitude to all patients, relatives and members of staff in a calm and professional manner
- Ability to cope under pressure
Desirable criteria
- Experience of endoscopy/gastroenterology units
- Ability to plan care of patients pre and post endoscopy procedures
- Good organisational skills with a flexible approach to work
- Some ability to speak, read and/or write Welsh, or an eagerness to learn
- A working knowledge of gastroenterology nursing experience
- Effective teaching/supervisory and leadership skills

Job summary
We are looking for highly motivated Endoscopy Practitioner to join our Day Surgery and Endoscopy Units at Brecon and Llandrindod Hospital. The role involves assisting the endoscopists during procedures and specialised patient care before, during and after the procedure. You will also be admitting and discharging the patients and the successful applicants base will be Brecon Hospital.
Excellent communication skills are required to work within the department, to ensure effective working relationships so that we can deliver a high standard of patient care to Powys patients locally. The unit also supports the training of clinical endoscopists and other training opportunities can be explored.
Main duties of the job
The main purpose of the job is to ensure the provision of the highest standard of direct patient care for patients undergoing a range of endoscopic procedures. Assist the Endoscopist and support patients, with emphasis on patient safety and dignity during all aspects of endoscopy procedures.
