Role summary
The University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an organised and accurate Accounts Assistant to join their Financial Accounts team. This role involves recording and allocating cash and cheque receipts, maintaining cash books, completing bank reconciliations, and processing card payments. The successful candidate will also prepare weekly banking and petty cash, identify income and expenditure, and support other treasury functions. The position requires strong numeracy, IT literacy, and communication skills to meet tight deadlines.
Key responsibilities
- Record all cheques/cash received onto cash sheets, issue receipts and cash allocation on ledgers
- Collate cheque requisitions, ensuring adequate back up and authorisation
- Reconciliations of cash book to bank statements for all bank accounts
- Weekly preparation of petty cash for cashiers
- Operate the Streamline debit card terminal and allocate payments received
- Identify and allocate income/expenditure from the bank accounts
Essential criteria
- 5 GCSE's grade C or above including Maths and English
- Experience of working in a finance environment / Cashiers. With familiarity of all finance functions (Sales Ledger, Payroll, Cash Management and Purchase Ledger
- Highly numerate with analytical mind
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and written
- Work planning and co-ordination skills

- IT literate with the ability to analyse large amounts of data using spreadsheets
- Ability to work to tight deadlines
- Knowledge of Trust SOs, SFIs & Scheme of Delegation -- their application to the Trust procurement and accounts payable processes.

Job summary
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an organised and highly accurate Accounts Assistant to join our Financial Accounts team.

The ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining excellent attention to detail is essential.
