Role summary
This is a part-time Band 5 Pharmacy Technician role within Patient Services at Queen's Hospital, Romford. The successful candidate will provide technical support across dispensary and ward-based services, undertaking final accuracy checking, medicines optimisation, reconciliation, and drug histories. The role involves working closely with healthcare professionals, contributing to service improvement, and requires GPhC registration and Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification. Weekend and bank holiday shifts are required via a rota.
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical support and supervision to the dispensaries, and ward-based, clinical services.
- Provide training to junior staff.
- Supervise pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy assistants, in the absence of the Pharmacy Technician Specialists and Team Managers.
- Undertake final accuracy checking.
- Support medicines optimisation, complete medicines reconciliation and drug histories, assess patients' own medicines, support discharge processes, and provide medication counselling.
Essential criteria
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a UK Pharmacy Technician
- Level 3 QCF Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (NVQ) or equivalent
- Accredited checking technician
- Experience of being in a Medicines Management role e.g. Assessment of Patients own medicines, drug history taking, medicines reconciliation.
- Experience of liaising and interacting with nursing and medical staff and other healthcare professionals.
- Good organisational skills
- Ability to work autonomously and within a team
- IT literacy
- Good interpersonal skills and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Dealing with patients and the public
- Patient counselling techniques
- Demonstrates attention to detail and accuracy
Desirable criteria
- Qualifications to be NVQ Assessor / Educational Supervisor / Practice Supervisor
