Role summary
This role involves working as a Tobacco Dependency Advisor within the Adult and Older Peoples Mental Health Directorate. You will support service users in inpatient units to stop, reduce, or abstain from smoking, and promote the smoke-free policy. The position focuses on addressing health inequalities by supporting mental health patients to quit smoking, aligning with the NHS Long Term Plan. The post holder will work across inpatient services in Cambridge and Peterborough, primarily Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure patients are screened for smoking status and offered referral to the Tobacco Dependency Service.
- Conduct face-to-face initial assessments to create personalised plans for smoking cessation or reduction.
- Provide ongoing support to patients throughout their admission and ensure access to appropriate pharmacotherapy.
- Update activity on the Trust's Electronic Patient Notes System and support monthly reporting requirements.
- Actively signpost patients to smoking cessation resources upon discharge and provide staff updates and support.
Essential criteria
- GCSEs (grades A-C or 4 - 9) including English Language and Maths or significant equivalent previous proven experience
- Experience working in a healthcare environment or for local authority services
- Experience working within mental health services
- Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of the impact smoking has on health
- Excellent communicator
- Diplomacy and negotiation skills
Desirable criteria
- Ability to travel independently and in a timely manner across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to meet strict deadlines.

Job summary
As part of the nationwide Treating Tobacco Dependency (TTD) Programme, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join CPFT as a Tobacco Dependency Advisor you will work alongside the Tobacco Dependency Lead and Smoke Free Lead within our Adult and Older Peoples Mental Health Directorate.
Your focus will be to support service users to successfully stop smoking, reduce smoking, or abstain from smoking while admitted to one of our inpatient units and to promote our smoke free policy across our inpatient services.
The NHS Long Term Plan is committed to supporting people to live healthier for longer and preventing avoidable illness by stopping smoking.Prioritizing support for people suffering with mental illness is intended to address the health inequalities and premature deaths experienced by this population.
The post holder will work across our inpatient services located inCambridge and Peterborough.Core business hours for the role will be Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am to 5pm.
You will need to have the ability to establish strong working relationships with a variety of teams, supporting the Tobacco Dependency Lead to implement work across clinical areas.
