Role summary
This role is for a highly motivated Operating Department Practitioner or Nurse to join the theatre team at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. You will be involved in preparing operating theatres, recording patient care, and mentoring junior staff. The Trust offers a robust preceptorship program and opportunities for post-graduate development. The role requires a strong sense of teamwork and a passion for delivering outstanding surgical care.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare an operating theatre/anaesthetic room for surgery, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and in working order.
- Record the patient's theatre episode of care in the Electronic Patients Record (EPR) and Bluespier record accurately and timely.
- Act as a preceptor/mentor for student ODP's, student nurses, trainee associate nurses, and ATP's.
- Work as a team member without supervision and supervise/mentor junior staff to run an operating list.
- Perform scrub, circulating, and/or anaesthetic PACU duties within the specialist area.
- Be responsible for appropriate delegation of tasks to other staff members.

- 1st Level HCPC or NMC Registration
- Diploma/ Degree in Operating Department Practice or Adult Nursing
- KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
- Knowledge of conditions and treatment within sphere of practice
- Responsibility to plan own post basic education
- Knowledge of conditions and treatment within sphere of practice
- Knowledge of national and local initiatives

Job summary
Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust are looking for highly motivated and dynamic Operating Department Practitioners and Nurses who are passionate about delivering outstanding surgical care. We are a hardworking and enthusiastic department with a strong sense of teamwork.
The successful applicant will be either a registered nurse or Operating Department Practitioner. As part of our robust Trust preceptorship program we provide a 12-month graduate program which is specifically designed to aid our newly qualified nurses and ODPs, with 6 paid study days per annum and then a continued development program. Our Trust works in close partnership with Huddersfield University providing post graduate learning and development opportunities.
Main duties of the job
o Prepare an operating theatre/anaesthetic room for surgery in relation to instrumentation, equipment and supplies required for specific operative procedures,ensuring waste is kept to a minimum.
