Role summary
This role is for an experienced and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join the Community Adult Speech and Language Therapy team in Wigan. The post holder will work 22.5 hours a week, providing specialist assessment, intervention, and training for patients with dysphagia and communication impairments in various community settings. It offers opportunities for professional development, including in-service training and supervision, and is open to existing NHS Band 5-6 clinicians.
Essential criteria
- Recognised SLT degree or equivalent
- Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration- licence to practice
- Registered member of the RCSLT
- Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses relevant to caseload
- Post graduate training or equivalent competencies in Dysphagia
Desirable criteria
- Member of relevant clinical excellence network (CEN)
- Attendance at clinical educator course
- Relevant experience at undergraduate/post graduate level
- In depth experience of a wide range of communication disorders and dysphagia
- Experience of supporting students and assistants
- Experience of clinical supervision
- Experience of multi-disciplinary working
- Relevant experience post registration - completion of RCSLT competency framework
- NHS experience
- Experience of working with people with progressive neurological conditions.
- Experience of working in the community in a variety of settings e.g. nursing homes, patient homes, clinic.
- Experience of virtual assessment- telehealth
- Experience of assessment and identification of appropriate AAC
- Experience of training others in relation to communication and dysphagia
- Experience of videofluoroscopy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including observation, listening and empathy
- Must demonstrate excellent verbal and non-verbal communication with the ability to motivate people and empathise with the challenges of long-term condition management
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Negotiation and problem-solving skills
- Good presentation skills both written and verbal
- Excellent analytical and reflection skills
- IT ability, including word processing, presentation skills and ability to access software packages
- Well established knowledge of national policies, procedures and clinical guidelines of specific client groups.
- Knowledge of relevant evidence base for assessment and intervention of acquired communication and /or swallowing impairment.
- Understanding of the principles of clinical governance / audit

Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join the Community Adult Speech and Language Therapy team based at Leigh Town Hall (WWL AHP Team of the year 2024). The post holder will work 22.5 hours a week between Monday-Friday.
This exciting post involves working in the community of Wigan in patients' own homes, care homes, day centres, clinic and covering the community wards. There are opportunities for agile working and we offer virtual assessments and interventions. The post holder will have access to a laptop, electronic patient records, iPad and other resources required to carry out their duties.
The post holder will work with patients with a range of medical conditions resulting in dysphagia and/or communication impairments. There will be opportunities to develop knowledge and skills in this field through in-service training, peer supervisions, group supervisions, 1:1 supervisions, access to request CPD funding for courses, and appraisal.
Within the community SLT Team, we continuously strive for best evidence based practice and we run outpatient videofluoroscopy and FEES clinics. The team are involved in audit and research and there are opportunities to take forward new initiatives.
This post is open to existing NHS Band 5-6 clinicians and is not suitable for newly qualified therapists. Where required, support will be given
