Role summary
This is an exciting full-time opportunity for a Band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant to join the Orthopaedics and Surgery team at Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust. The role involves working with elective orthopaedic and surgical inpatients, pre-assessment, and prehabilitation services, primarily based at King George Hospital. Key responsibilities
- Provide skilled routine and non-routine clinical and non-clinical support to the Orthopaedic and Surgical Therapy team.
- Assess and discharge patients independently.
- Provide advice and support to patients and family members.
- Work closely with the MDT to provide evidence-based patient-centred care.
Essential criteria
- Good standard of general education, to G.C.S.E. level or equivalent
- Evidence of recent relevant further education to N.V.Q level III standard or equivalent
- Proven experience working as a Therapy Assistant in Health or similar post
- Ability to understand and follow instructions accurately and learn new skills quickly
- Ability to communicate information (verbal, non verbal and written) in an accurate, clear and logical manner
- Ability to work at moderate to intense physical effort throughout the day
- Ability to cope working in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients and carers
Desirable criteria
- Willingness to follow a training programme
- To have experience as a Therapy Assistant, preferably within the speciality of orthopaedics
- Computer skills to ECDL level or equivalent, or the ability to work towards ECDL

Job summary
Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust (BHRUT) are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Physiotherapy Assistant within Orthopaedics and Surgery at a Band 4 level, to join our friendly and highly skilled team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and support staff on a full-time basis.
The post will include working with elective orthopaedic inpatients, the elective surgery pre-assessment team, elective patients from other surgical specialties, and our developing prehabilitation service for elective joint replacements, including delivering education sessions pre-operatively. This post will be primarily based out of our accredited elective hub at the King George Hospital site, however there is opportunity to work cross site at Queens Hospital if required.
You will be able to assess and discharge patients independently, as well as provide advice and support to patients and family members. You will need excellent communication and reasoning skills. The post involves close working with the MDT to provide evidence-based patient-centred care. In return you will receive regular supervision and support, as well as training and career development opportunities.
