Role summary
This role is for a Theatre Team Leader in the Emergency, Vascular & Gynaecology Theatre environment. The post holder will provide strong clinical and operational leadership, ensuring safe, efficient, and effective delivery of patient-centred perioperative care. They will support and develop the multidisciplinary team while maintaining high professional standards. The role requires a Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner with significant theatre experience.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse (NMC) or ODP (HCPC) with a recognised UK anaesthetic qualification
- Teaching, leadership, or management qualification (or equivalent experience)
- Communication Skills
- Effective written and verbal communication, including in challenging situations
- Ability to lead by example, support team development, and role-model professional behaviours
- Knowledge and Training
- Sound knowledge of anaesthetic and recovery practice, patient safety, and perioperative standards
- Understanding of evidence-based practice, clinical governance, safeguarding, and mental capacity
- Knowledge of leadership principles, service improvement, or multi-skilled practice
- Perioperative and scrub experience with exposure to multiple specialities including emergencies and obstetrics
- Experience leading or coordinating staff and working within an MDT in an acute setting
- IT literate
- Analytical & Judgement Skills
- Ability to make sound clinical and operational decisions, including in pressured situations
- Planning Skills
- Ability to prioritise workload, plan service delivery, and manage competing demands effectively
- Management Skills
- Ability to manage and support staff performance, including supervision and development
- Ability to ensure appropriate staffing and use of resources to deliver safe patient care
- Ability to contribute to rota management, service coordination, and day-to-day operational oversight

Theatres Emergency, Vascular & Gynaecology Theatre Team Leader Band 6 - Full Time (Permanent)
The Theatre Team Leader will provide strong clinical and operational leadership within the Emergency Theatre environment, supporting vascular and gynaecology services. The post holder will be a Registered Nurse (RN) or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with significant theatre experience and the ability to lead within a fast-paced, high-acuity setting.
The role is pivotal in ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of patient-centred perioperative care, maintaining high professional standards while supporting and developing the multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
Some of the duties include:
- Provide effective clinical and operational leadership to staff during each shift.
- Support the Specialty Manager, Theatre Manager and Matron for Theatres, Anaesthetics, Critical Care and Pain in the development and delivery of services, with specific responsibility forEmergency, Obstetrics and Vascular theatres.
- Coordinate perioperative activity with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective theatre flow and continuity of patient care, includingout-of-hoursprovision.
