Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Scientist in GI Physiology to join an established multidisciplinary team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. The role involves providing a full range of diagnostic tests, contributing to MDTs, and delivering diagnostic testing during one-stop consultant clinics. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced in delivering high-quality patient care with excellent communication and organisational skills.
Essential criteria
- First Degree in science or in a relevant equivalent experience
- Current registration with HCPC / RCCP or working towards registration after completion of training
- Post graduate qualification / MSc in Science / engineering or equivalent relevant experience
- Significant experience as a Trainee or Junior Clinical Scientist/physiologist or equivalent
- Experience producing scientific papers, reports and delivering conference presentations.
- Maintain continuous personal development

- STP or ASP training programme in GI physiology
- Professional Examinations/Membership or equivalence in area of specialisation e.g. Association of GI Physiology
- Skills and competencies

Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Clinical Scientist in GI Physiology to join our established GI Physiology team. Our multidisciplinary team sits within the GI Physiology Unit at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) and is comprised of specialist nurses, physiotherapists, clinical scientists, operating department practitioners, colorectal surgeons and gastroenterologists.
You will provide a full range of diagnostic tests including high resolution oesophageal manometry, 24 hour pH/impedance studies, wireless pH studies, anorectal physiology and hydrogen and methane breath tests. You will contribute to upper GI physiology and pelvic floor MDTs and provide diagnostic testing during one-stop consultant clinics.
You will be highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced in delivering high quality patient care. You will possess excellent communication and organisational skills.
