This is an exciting opportunity for two qualified and compassionate Anatomical Pathology Technicians (APT) to join the Mortuary Services team. The role involves supporting high-quality mortuary and post-mortem services, working with various professionals and bereaved families. The ideal candidate will possess excellent technical expertise, professionalism, sensitivity, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of care and dignity for the deceased and their relatives.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake routine and specialist mortuary duties and assist with post-mortem examinations, including high-risk cases and Virtopsys.
- Prepare, receive, store, and release deceased patients in accordance with local policies and legal requirements.
- Assist with body viewing arrangements and provide support to funeral directors and other service users.
- Support compliance with Human Tissue Authority (HTA) regulations and standards.
- Contribute to the maintenance and development of departmental SOPs, risk assessments, and quality standards.
- Train and support junior colleagues and nursing staff in mortuary practices and Care After Death procedures.
- Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota.
Essential criteria
- Certificate and Diploma or Level 3 and Level 4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology
- Experience of working in a mortuary
- Supervised and trained other staff both mortuary and nursing
- Participated in an on-call [contact details removed] (therefore worked alone)
- Knowledge and familiar with specialized techniques required in the mortuary
- Knowledge of HTA and accreditation bodies responsible for the mortuary
- Committed to personal and professional development
Desirable criteria
- Foundation Degree in Mortuary Science
