Role summary
This role involves providing comprehensive senior medical secretarial support to Consultants within the General Surgery service. The successful candidate will manage patient administration systems, handle digital dictation, and ensure accurate record-keeping. It requires excellent organisational and communication skills, working as part of a dedicated medical secretarial team. The position is a 12-month fixed-term contract.
Key responsibilities
- Provide senior medical secretarial service directly to named Consultants.
- Undertake medical audio/copy typing duties including outpatient letters and reports.
- Arrange appointments and special tests requested by medical staff.
- Deal with day-to-day incoming mail, assigning priority and taking necessary action.
- Maintain patient records and track notes electronically, ensuring confidentiality.
- Respond to enquiries from GPs, other health personnel, patients, and relatives.
Essential criteria
- RSA II or equivalent
- 5 GCSE inc English
- Medical Terminology
- Prioritising workloads
- Excellent communication skills
- Medical secretarial experience
Desirable criteria
- AMSPAR medical qualification or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of NHS systems
- Experience within an NHS/Healthcare setting

Job summary
To provide an effective and efficient Senior Medical Secretary role to named Consultants within the General Surgery service.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and enthusiastic individuals to join the medical secretarial team in the Surgery, GI and Critical Care Division at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.
As a team player you will be responsible for providing a full secretarial service to the General Surgery department within the Division. The post holder will be required to use computerised systems such as Patient Centre (Patient Administration System) Advantis and the BigHand Digital dictation system.
The successful candidate will have previous secretarial experience and will possess excellent organisation, communication, typing skills andthe ability to work in a team environment.
