Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Special Needs Health Care Assistant to support students aged 19-25 with complex health and learning needs at Victoria College. The role involves assisting with nursing care, encouraging self-care, and ensuring effective communication with the college nurse. You will also liaise with parents/carers and undertake home visits with the multi-professional team. The position is for 25 hours per week, Monday-Friday, term-time only, with no weekend work.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with nursing care including delegated clinical procedures as set out in the Care Plan and following appropriate competency assessed training.
- Assist students, where appropriate, encouraging self-care and achievement of independence.
- Ensure accurate, timely and effective communication to the college nurse when receiving workload instructions and when reporting back information about students.
- Liaise with parents/carers, on behalf of the college nurse or other professionals, over the telephone, giving support in relation to health issues.
- Undertake home visits with members of the multi-professional team.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in relation to all information and records.
Essential criteria
- oGood standard of GCSE passes including English at C or above
- oNVQ in Care /social care Level 3 or equivalent.
- Evidence of continued learning and development.
- oPrevious Experience of working with young people with complex health and learning disability.
- oDemonstrate willingness to undertake a range of duties and to learn new tasks including clinical procedures where relevant.
- oDemonstrate an understanding of the implications of carrying out work within another agency's environment.
- oDemonstrate an understanding of Disability.
- oAbility to recognise the importance of feedback to qualified nurses.
- oDemonstrate understanding of confidentiality and consequences of breaking confidentiality
- oAwareness of Adult Safeguarding issues.
- oExcellent verbal and written communication skills.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Special Needs Health Care Assistant based at Victoria College to support the needs of students aged 19-25 with complex health and learning needs.
