Role summary
This role involves working with pregnant women who are tobacco dependent, providing evidence-based behavioural support and treatment. The post holder will deliver personalised treatment plans, conduct CO monitoring, and dispense Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) in various settings. This position aims to tackle health inequalities arising from addiction and requires working closely with the maternity team to provide safe and individualised care.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver evidence-based behavioural support and treatment to pregnant women who are tobacco dependent.
- Develop personalised treatment plans in line with the NCSCT Standard Treatment Programme for Pregnant Women.
- Work flexibly in various settings (hospital, community hubs, home visits) for tobacco dependency treatment.
- Conduct daily ward rounds to identify maternity inpatients needing tobacco dependency treatment and NRT.
- Conduct and interpret Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitoring and dispense NRT according to Trust protocol.
Essential criteria
- GCSE level English and Mathematics or equivalent
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in health-related studies
- OR substantial successful experience delivering stop smoking interventions and support
- Experience of providing healthcare advice or promoting healthy lifestyle advice to patients or members of the public
- Experience of working in health, social care and other support roles in direct contact with people, families or carers (in a paid or voluntary capacity)
- Experience of providing help, support and/or counselling on either a one-to-one basis or as part of a group setting
- Experience of working within multi-professional team environments
- A good level of understanding of evidence-based practice in relation to smoking cessation, the consequences of smoking and benefits to quitting
- An understanding of human behaviour that contributes to making healthy lifestyle changes and decisions'
- The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with professionals/individuals from a variety of different professional backgrounds
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and listening skills.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload and coordinate own schedule without direct supervision
- Ability to recognise and work within limits of competence and seek advice when needed
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications - Word, Excel, Power point, Outlook
- Accurate and sufficient record keeping
- Evidence of continual personal and professional development

Job summary
The Cheshire & Merseyside Women's Health and Maternity is hosted by Liverpool Women's Hospital and is the lead for the Local Maternity System. The partnership is developing new models of care and services across Cheshire and Merseyside, designed for the population with a focus on the needs of the individual and is a work stream of the Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership (HCP).
The Partnership was an Acute Care Collaboration Vanguard site as part of NHS England's New Care Models programme, one of seven pioneer sites to develop Choice and Personalisation in maternity services and one of seven Early Adopter sites for the national maternity review.
The partnership has a well-established collaborative network and has progressed significantly to implement a range of transformational priorities.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work with the Lead Midwife for Treating Tobacco Dependence, and other key members of the maternity team, to deliver evidence-based behavioural support and treatment to a caseload of pregnant women who are tobacco dependent, in a variety of clinical settings, using the support of interventions such as Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitoring and Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT).
