Role summary

This role is for a Hospital Chaplain at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The chaplain will provide pastoral, spiritual, and religious care to patients, relatives, friends, staff, and students of all cultural and faith traditions. The position requires independent work, previous pastoral experience, and participation in a weekend and on-call rota, including potential overnight hospital visits. The successful candidate will support the delivery of high-quality, compassionate healthcare.

Key responsibilities

  • To visit patients referred to the Chaplaincy team and connect with patients, staff, or relatives requiring support or a listening ear.
  • To respond appropriately to people in intense emotional situations, regardless of their faith.
  • To plan and conduct appropriate services such as emergency baptisms, blessing services for stillborn/miscarried babies, adult and baby funerals, and bedside communion.
  • To support families whose relatives are dying.

Essential criteria

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Eligible to be authorised by appropriate faith or belief group to practice as a healthcare chaplain
  • Registered or eligible to hold registration to hold registration of the UKBHC
  • To have significant experience of a recognised pastoral care role.
  • To have some experience of working as a Chaplain and/or some working experience of the NHS
  • IT and keyboard skills
  • Effective role model, demonstrating NNUH's PRIDE values of People focussed, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence

Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Chaplain within the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Chaplaincy team. The successful post holder will be prepared to work with patients, their relatives and friends, and staff and students, whatever their cultural and faith tradition, for the purpose of pastoral, spiritual and religious care.

The successful candidate will have to work independently so previous pastoral experience is essential. We are looking for someone who understands the complexities of working in a team and will enjoy the challenges of chaplaincy in an acute hospital.

Recruitment to the advertised position is open to candidates who are eligible to be authorised by appropriate faith or belief group to practice as a healthcare chaplain and are registered or eligible to hold registration on the "UK Board of Hospital Chaplains"
