Role summary
This Assistant Psychologist role focuses on implementing diversity initiatives within the Eating Disorders Service to improve inclusion and reduce health inequalities. Key tasks include conducting service evaluations, developing culturally sensitive information, engaging with diverse communities, and liaising with other services. The post also involves clinical work, providing manual-based cognitive behavioural interventions, facilitating group programmes, and participating in research and audit activities. The post holder will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team, contributing to patients' psychological care.
Key responsibilities
- Implement initiatives in the diversity workstream to improve inclusion and reduce health inequalities.
- Participate in working group(s) associated with diversity and inclusion.
- Work alongside Experts by Experience in co-produced initiatives.
- Facilitate group programmes, including planning and running therapeutic groups.
- Provide manual-based cognitive behavioural interventions such as guided self-help and e-learning packages.
- Undertake specific duties pertaining to service governance objectives including planning, data collection and analysis, report writing and presentation.
Essential criteria
- An upper second class (2:1) honours degree or higher in psychology and entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
- Experience in working with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities
- Experience in working with clients from diverse ethnic backgrounds
- High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
- High competence with IT equipment and software packages such as MS Office
- Ability to keep professional boundaries and reflect on own role within therapeutic relationships
- An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines.
- Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals.
- Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively.
Desirable criteria
- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
- Experience of delivering presentations or teaching others
- Experience in involving in service delivery initiatives specifically in relation to diversity and inclusion
- An interest in working with individuals with eating disorders.

Job summary
The primary role of this post will be to implement new initiatives in the diversity workstream recently developed in the service to improve inclusion and reduce health inequalities. The main tasks may include conducting service evaluation and/or QI projects; developing cultural appropriate and sensitive information booklets; engaging with diverse communities; and liaising with other services to share experiences, etc. Alongside the focus on diversity work, the postholder will also involve in clinical work, providing manual-based cognitive behavioural interventions such as CBT-T, guided self-help and e-learning packages according to levels of skills and experience, and taking part in the facilitation of the group programme including planning and running of therapeutic groups. There will also be opportunities to participate in research and audit activities and to support teaching and training programmes within the service. Being allied to the multi-disciplinary team in the Eating Disorders Service, the post holder will act as a member of the team, attend meetings and contribute to informing patients' psychological care within the team.
