Role summary
This role is for a qualified Band 6 School Nurse to work as part of the 0-19 team in Reading, focusing on delivering core and targeted services to children aged 5-19 and their families. Key responsibilities
- Delivering school drop in sessions to a defined number of targeted schools including both primary and senior schools.
- To manage and organise a defined caseload independently, addressing the health needs of children according to evidence based practice.
- To undertake in depth health assessments for Children in Care, children who are subject to a Child Protection Plan and vulnerable children and work according the Berkshire LSCB Policies and Procedures as required.
- To ensure the most effective use of human and physical resources within the team by appropriate delegation of work and use/application of resources.
- To provide targeted health interventions to children and young people with identified health needs.
- To exercise leadership, judgment, and management to ensure excellent clinical practice, maintaining high standards of care.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse
- NMC Registration
- Public Health qualification (e.g. SCPHN) or willingness to undertake and specialist knowledge acquired through post graduate short courses, training and equivalent experience, in a relevant field.
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Demonstrable experience of working autonomously to deliver high quality and evidence-based nursing care
- Experience in providing supervision to junior colleagues and students in the completion of routine nursing and clinical skills
- Uphold the Trust's values of being caring, committed and working as team through demonstratable examples and experience
- Proficient use of digital tools and applications including Word, Outlook and patient management systems
- Ability to travel between multiple Trust sites and non-Trust locations, including patient homes, some of which may not be easily accessible via public transport

A Monday - Thursday 9am-5pm term time only (39 weeks) working pattern is just one of the attractions this opportunity provides. We are looking to recruit a qualified Band 6 School Nurse to work as part of the 0-19 team in Reading working closely alongside our Health Visiting colleagues. You will be an enthusiastic and qualified school nurse, with a warm personality and great people skills.
