Role summary

Key responsibilities

  • Engage individuals admitted to hospital due to alcohol-related issues and facilitate access to treatment and recovery services.
  • Deliver brief interventions, harm reduction advice and motivational support to encourage behaviour change.
  • Complete initial screening assessments and identify risks, safeguarding concerns and support needs.
  • Support service users following discharge through telephone, digital and face-to-face follow-up interventions.
  • Work collaboratively with hospital teams, community services and external stakeholders to improve pathways into treatment and recovery.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records, reports and outcome data in line with organisational requirements.

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working in the drug and alcohol field (including voluntary work or placements)
  • A commitment to and understanding of harm reduction & recovery approaches to working with Alcohol users who may also use other substances
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills

Desirable criteria

  • Essential Requirement 4:An understanding of trauma informed practice

Are you passionate about supporting people to make positive changes and improving access to alcohol treatment?

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and compassionate Hospital Engagement Worker to join Inclusion Recovery Hampshire, supporting individuals affected by alcohol use who are admitted to hospitals across South Hampshire.

This role is focused on engaging people at key moments of need, providing brief interventions, harm reduction advice and support to access community treatment and recovery services following discharge. Working closely with hospital teams, community partners and Inclusion colleagues, you will help service users overcome barriers to treatment, improve health outcomes and reduce future hospital admissions.

You will be part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team committed to delivering person-centred, trauma-informed and recovery-focused support. The role combines hospital-based engagement, community follow-up and partnership working to ensure service users receive timely and effective care.
