Role summary

As a Transport Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and timely collection and delivery of blood and related products, operating 24/7. Key responsibilities

  • Drive vehicles to collect, transport, and deliver blood, related products, and equipment.
  • Ensure vehicles are secure and roadworthy, completing daily checks and reporting defects.
  • Use digital hand-held devices to track work and maintain accurate electronic and paper records.
  • Load and unload products and equipment, including assembling/dismantling kit and safely moving items up to 20kg.
  • Support urgent blue light deliveries when required, following provided training.
  • Provide excellent customer care to colleagues, donors, hospital staff, and the public.

Essential criteria

  • Possession of a valid driving licence allowing you to drive in the UK with 6 points or less on your licence which will be subject to DVLA check is essential
  • B licence is essential for this role
  • Able to meet NHSBT minimum standards of driving skills which will be assessed at interview stage
  • Previous vocational driving experience or evidence of driving proficiency
  • Able to work with information technology such as digital hand held devices, Microsoft Office or other IT packages
  • A good geographical knowledge of the local area and road network
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance checks

Desirable criteria

  • C1 driving licence would be desirable.

As a Transport Driver you will keep blood and related products moving safely and on time, 24/7. You will collect and deliver essential items between our sites and customers, using on-board technology to track and record every movement. You will take pride in providing a professional service, completing daily vehicle checks, and keeping vehicles and equipment secure and clean. With full training, you may also support urgent blue light deliveries. This is a hands-on role where your judgement, reliability and customer care help protect patients and support clinical teams every day.
