Role summary
This is a permanent Band 5 Podiatrist role within the East Lancashire Locality, focusing on providing dynamic and holistic podiatry services. The role involves managing a caseload of patients with various conditions, including diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis, and participating in wound care, nail surgery, and biomechanics. The successful candidate will also support and mentor junior staff and contribute to service development. It requires a positive attitude towards professional development and excellent clinical, communication, and organisational skills.
Key responsibilities
- Work as part of the Podiatry locality team providing assessment and treatment planning / delivery to patients within agreed Podiatry Service access criteria.
- Be responsible for the management and treatment of a caseload of patients, providing a comprehensive assessment of podiatric need, relevant health education, planned podiatric care packages and referral to other health care professionals as required.
- Take responsibility for the continuing podiatric care of patients with a variety of needs e.g. diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis.
- Work as a member of the locality team participating in the nail surgery rota and provide aftercare following nail surgery.
- Be responsible for undertaking biomechanical treatment and appropriate prescription of orthotics and provision of chairside orthotics.
- Undertake domiciliary visits at patients homes/ nursing / residential homes.
Essential criteria
- BSc in Podiatric Medicine/ Diploma in Podiatric Medicine
- Certificate in Local Analgesia
- Health Care Professions Council registered
- Experience of NHS working or student placement experience
- Ability to demonstrate high standards of clinical work
- Demonstrate the ability to use sensory and vascular equipment
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good organisational skills
- Good time management skills
- Good listening skills
- Good hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Ability to work alone with supervision available
- Hold a current driving licence
- Ability to be able to travel across all clinical locations when required

The ELHT Podiatry service provides a dynamic, flexible, responsive and solution focused holistic service for a patient caseload including patients with Diabetes, Rheumatology, Vascular, Connective Tissue Diseases, Tissue Viability and Wound care conditions.
The successful candidate requires a positive attitude to personal and professional development for themselves and the Podiatry Service.
The working hours may be worked over 7 days between the hours of 8am-8pm.
Main duties of the job
The Podiatry Service works very closely with primary and secondary care and social care and works with a wide range of health care professionals including Consultants, GPs, Social Services, District Nurses, Treatment Room staff, Nursing Staff.
The Podiatry Service undertakes primarily high risk clinical work including wound care, nail surgery, biomechanics, and emergency clinics. The Podiatry Service does not provide a social nail cutting service.
