Role summary
This is a 12-month fixed-term contract for a Healthcare Assistant in the Outpatients Department, covering maternity leave starting December 2026. The role involves providing personal care and clinical duties under supervision, ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients. You will participate in training and development, and work flexibly across a 6-day week, including evening clinics. Excellent communication skills and a positive approach to patient care are essential.
Key responsibilities
- Provide personal care for patients.
- Perform a range of clinical duties/tasks within your sphere of competence and after appropriate training.
- Work under the direct supervision of a registered health care professional.
- Help ensure a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients.
- Provide training, direction, and supervision to junior staff.
Essential criteria
- Functional skills minimum Level 2 Math's and English or GCSE equivalent or working towards.
- Completed the National Care Certificate
- Awareness and understanding of importance of confidentiality
- Knowledge of Infection Control & Safeguarding processes
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Experience of working with the multidisciplinary team
- Experience of caring for patients
- Good written communication skills with accuracy and attention to detail
- Basic computer skills with ability / willingness to develop further IT skills.
Desirable criteria
- Working towards or prepared to gain additional skills of Band 3 (eg ECG recording/Venepuncture)
- Experience working in an Outpatient setting
- Experience of support and supervision of junior staff

Job summary
Healthcare Assistant - Outpatients Department Band 3 12 Months temporary contract - Maternity cover starting December 2026 A new and exciting opportunity has arisen and we are currently looking for a caring and enthusiastic individual to join the Outpatients nursing team within the Clinical Support Services Division as a Health Care Assistant.
As part of this role, you will be required to participate in training and development activities related to the job role.
Under the direction of the Sister/Charge Nurse you will help us to ensure that we provide a clean, safe and comfortable environment for our patients.
Applicants should be excellent communicators and have a positive approach to patient care. A polite and courteous manner towards patients and relatives will be essential for this role, together with your ability to work under pressure, as part of a team as well as organising your own workload.
Flexibility is required as part of the role as the service works 6 days a week Monday to Saturday and also covers evening clinics until 8pm during the week.
Previous outpatient experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided to ensure you have the skills required to fulfil the position.
