Role summary
This is an exciting secondment opportunity for an experienced paediatric haematology and oncology nurse to join the nursing team as a Clinical Educator. The role involves providing clinical expertise, managing the unit efficiently, and promoting high standards of patient care. You will focus on the training and development of all staff groups, supporting them in gaining competencies and delivering effective patient care. The position also includes developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Provide clinical expertise for the efficient daily management of the unit, undertaking a full range of clinical duties.
- Promote care delivery according to policies, procedures, and best practice, implementing change as appropriate.
- Monitor and maintain the quality of the clinical environment, focusing on Health and Safety and infection control.
- Assist in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures, ensuring compliance.
- Organise daily work allocation in conjunction with team leaders, considering staff development needs.
- Develop and deliver teaching strategies to enhance patient care and ensure mandatory training is up to date.
Essential criteria
- Registered Children's Nurse
- First degree
- Evidence of current relevant continuous professional development
- Post Graduate Certificate in Education or working towards
- Fellow of Higher Education Academy or working towards
- Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development in area of specialism
- Systematic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) competency
- Demonstrate expert nursing skills
- Evidence of mentorship/preceptorship roles
- Teaching experience (formal or informal)
- Experience in using reflective practice
- Experience in giving formal feedback to others
- Able to demonstrate understanding of the job role priorities in respect of current NHS, Nursing and Midwifery Council standards/HCPC standards, CQC standards
- Good understanding of professional and statutory body requirements in relation to practice learning placements
- Demonstrates a sound awareness of cultural and learning diversity
- Ability to initiate and implement improvements in practice
- Excellent written and verbal/interpersonal communication skills
- Able to have challenging conversations where necessary
- Computer literacy including competent in Word and Excel
- Negotiation skills and influencing skills
- Ability to organised own time to deliver targets and initiatives

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the nursing team working in Haematology and Oncology as the Clinical Educator. This post is a secondment to cover maternity leave. You will need to have experience as a paediatric haematology and oncology nurse, who is highly motivated and has a passion for teaching and staff development, whilst ensuring that expert care is delivered to our patients and families at all times.
CUH is a Principal Treatment Centre for Paediatric Haematology and Oncology patients and you will be working with a team of consultants, speciality doctors, Clinical Nurse Specialists, ward and clinic nurses as well as the wider multi-disciplinary team. The unit cares for children from a point of diagnosis, treating children with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, as well as high dose therapy treatments for haematological and oncological conditions from across the East of England.
You will support the unit clinically and focus on the training and development of all staff groups with the support of the managers, clinical band 6 teams and the practice development team within Children's Services. Elements of the role will include supporting staff to gain their oral and intravenous drug and chemotherapy competencies
