Role summary
This role is for a Trainee Clinical Coder to support the Trust by providing accurate clinically coded data for inpatient and outpatient activity. The successful applicant will extract relevant information from case notes and source documents. Full training and support will be provided to enable the coding of clinical activity using ICD10 and OPCS4.

- Educated to A Level standard or equivalent relevant passes.
- ECDL or equivalent qualification in the use of IT
- Knowledge and experience
- Knowledge of anatomy & physiology
- Experience of working in a NHS hospital and/or office environment
Desirable criteria
- Experience in NHS hospital PAS system
- Understanding of medical terminology
- Previous clinical coding experience

Job summary
We have exciting opportunities for Trainee Clinical Coders to support the Trust in providing reliable and accurate clinically coded data for all inpatient and outpatient activity.
You must be educated to A level standard or equivalent relevant passes. It is desirable that the successful applicant will have previous NHS experience and a basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
Full training and support will be provided.
Main duties of the job
- To extract relevant information from case notes/source documents to enable coding of clinical activity.
- To critically analyse the data from all available sources relevant to the episode of care and investigate and interpret the information to determine the appropriate coding translation, using ICD10 (diagnostic codes) and OPCS4 (procedure codes), into a form that can be tabulated, aggregated and sorted for statistical analysis applying national and international rules and conventions to agreed standards.
