Role summary
This role involves taking blood samples from pregnant women and fathers for genetic screening, ensuring results are available, and performing venepuncture with minimal patient trauma. The successful applicant will also be responsible for collecting clinical information, sending out screening results, and cross-checking patient data. It requires an enthusiastic, dynamic, and motivated individual with previous phlebotomy and customer care experience, capable of working under pressure and on their own initiative.
Key responsibilities
- Perform venepuncture for blood sample collection for Antenatal and Newborn Screening Programmes and routine tests.
- Prepare clinics by checking results for women prior to ultrasound and identifying incomplete results.
- Liaise with external laboratories regarding outstanding test results.
- Assist screening midwives with antenatal and newborn screening failsafe and KPI report collation.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure timely dispatch of tests and availability of results.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure safe transfer of electronic data.
- Provide administrative support to midwives, including filing records and sending patient results.
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 3 in Health Care OR equivalent experience
- Commitment to undertake the necessary training

- Previous experience of working with members of the public

Job summary
The screening service takes blood from pregnant women following their first ultrasound scan and from fathers of babies for genetic screening. The successful applicant will also be responsible for ensuring results are available for all patients bled.
We are looking for enthusiastic and vibrant people to join our team. You will need to have previous phlebotomy experience, be a dynamic and motivated person with previous patient or customer care experience. We work with pregnant women and their babies, meaning the schedule will be unpredictable and varied. No two days are ever the same and each day brings a new experience.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibility of the phlebotomist is to perform venepuncture for the collection of blood samples, with minimum trauma to patient whilst adhering to safe phlebotomy techniques and sample requirements. As part of the screening tests the phlebotomist will be responsible for weighing the patient, and asking clinical questions regarding smoking, ethnicity, diabetes and IVF information which are required to complete the screening tests.
The screening support phlebotomist will also be responsible for sending out screening results and cross checking all patients tested have results available in a timel
