Role summary

This role is for a Band 6 Registered Learning Disability Nurse to join the CAMHS Learning Disability Team within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. You will provide specialist learning disability support to children and young people across Tier 3 Community CAMHS teams. The position involves working with multidisciplinary and multi-agency partners to support individuals with mental health, learning disability, and neurodevelopmental needs. This is a full-time, fixed-term post until June 2028, based at Templeton Business Centre.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide specialist learning disability nursing assessment, intervention and support for children and young people with complex mental health, learning disability and neurodevelopmental needs
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively within multidisciplinary CAMHS teams to deliver high quality person-centred care
  • Undertake holistic assessments, risk assessments and care planning, ensuring interventions are evidence based and recovery focused
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with children, young people and families, promoting engagement, resilience and positive outcomes
  • Provide specialist advice, consultation and support to CAMHS colleagues and partner agencies regarding learning disability needs
  • Contribute to clinical supervision, mentorship, team development and the ongoing improvement of service delivery
  • Liaise effectively with education, social work, health and third sector partners to ensure coordinated and effective care pathways

Essential criteria

  • First Level Registered Learning Disability Nurse qualification with current NMC registration
  • Relevant or significant post-registration experience working with children and young people and their families or carers within learning disability, mental health or neurodevelopmental services
  • Demonstrable knowledge of child and adolescent mental health, learning disability and developmental needs
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and partnership working skills with the ability to build effective relationships across multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative and make complex clinical decisions without direct supervision
  • Understanding of vulnerability, risk factors, safeguarding and approaches that promote resilience and wellbeing
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and willingness to work towards competencies identified within Essential CAMHS programmes
