Role summary
This is a development post for a highly motivated and committed Psychological Therapist (Clinical or Counselling Psychologist) to join expanding Learning Disability Services in North Essex. The role involves implementing psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions for individuals, families, and carers, predominantly in community settings. The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team and receive supervision, with opportunities for professional development and research. This Band 7 role offers progression to Band 8a upon achieving necessary skills and competencies.
Key responsibilities
- Implement a variety of psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions for individuals across a range of ability levels.
- Provide support for families and carers of service users.
- Work predominantly in community services, with potential for involvement in inpatient services.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
- Contribute to research and development activities within the service.
Essential criteria
- Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology.
- Registered as a clinical psychologist with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Experience of specialist assessment and therapy with service users across a range of care settings.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of service user groups, presenting problems that reflect a range of clinical severity.
- Skills in the use of complex assessment, therapy or intervention and management.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
Desirable criteria
- Additional post graduate training or qualification in specific psychological therapy, such as positive behaviour support, psychotherapy or systemic therapy.
- Direct experience of using therapy with people with disabilities.
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in the specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc.)

Job summary
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and committed Psychological Therapist (qualified HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist or Counselling Psychologist) to join the expanding Learning Disability Services in North Essex. The newly appointed clinician will be joining multidisciplinary services, consisting of Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Arts Therapists, and Community Nurses. This Band 7 role is a development post, which offers the possibility of moving to a Band 8a upon achievement of the necessary skills, knowledge, and competencies.
This is a permanent contract, working part-time, 22.5 hours per week.Applicants will need to be registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC. It is essential that applicants can drive and have access to a car unless a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010 prevents driving.
