Role summary
This role is for a Band 3 Higher Level Biomedical Assistant within the Blood Sciences department at Coventry & Warwickshire Pathology Services. You will support Biomedical Scientist staff by performing technical duties, operating and maintaining analysers, and conducting some manual tests. The position requires participation in a 24/7 shift rota and involves working at both George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton and University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire.
Key responsibilities
- Input accurate and timely patient and specimen data on to Trust computerised systems.
- Safely dispose of contaminated materials, including sharps and confidential waste.
- Sort and identify specimens received, taking appropriate action for discrepancies.
- Undertake preparation of an extended range of samples for testing and provide support to BMS staff.
- Operate and perform maintenance on a range of laboratory equipment and analysers.
Essential criteria
- oAptitude for learning from "on the job" training
- oVocational Level 2 Qualification e.g. BTEC (or equivalent or higher) in an appropriate subject
- oBasic numeracy and literacy qualifications (GCSE or equivalent)
- oExperience of working in a customer facing environment
- oPrevious pathology laboratory experience
- oPatient focused
- oBasic IT skills
- oAbility work cooperatively within a team
- oGood communication and interpersonal skills
- oMust be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's values. (As detailed in UHCW's Values in Action document below)

We have exciting opportunities to join the Coventry & Warwickshire Pathology Services (CWPS) working as a band 3 Higher level Biomedical Assistant working in the Blood Sciences department at our Nuneaton site, George Eliot Hospital and Coventry site, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire. CWPS is a long established Network hosted by University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust.
