Role summary
This role involves providing basic patient care and assisting with procedures within the ophthalmology team. Key duties include performing vision tests, supporting various clinics like Macula and Emergency Eye Clinic, and assisting with the daily running of clinics. The successful candidate will also be responsible for patient observations and booking appointments.
Key responsibilities
- Supporting/chaperoning patients during procedures and assisting the team where necessary.
- Organisation and running of individual clinics.
- Performing Vision Tests, IOP readings, and Colour Vision Tests.
- Ensuring high standards of patient care and experience are met.
- Booking appointments and adding patient referrals.
Essential criteria
- Numeracy/Literacy skills to Level 1 (GCSE Grade 2-3, D-F or equivalent) IELTS or OETS (Overall score of C1) accepted for overseas applicants (Level 7 in Listening/speaking/reading & Level 6.5 in Writing)
- Care Certificate or must complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Care/Equivalent qualification or willing/required to complete if successful (If applicant has 3 years or more care experience this is voluntary).
- 12 months experience in a professional contract as a Healthcare Assistant or equivalent

Job summary
At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.
In relation to Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker roles, we are currently able to recruit successfully from the domestic labour market and have a sufficient pool of suitably qualified and appointable candidates. As a result, visa sponsorship is not available for this role at this time. This position is kept under regular review and may change in the future should labour market conditions or service requirements alter.
