Role summary
This role involves the regular collection, storage, and processing of data for West and North London ICB. The post-holder will design data refresh processes, maintain a data source register, and communicate data availability. They will work within the Data Engineering and Data Management team to integrate datasets into the data warehouse, run quality checks, and develop data ingestion pipelines. The role contributes to a performance-focused culture by providing high-quality information, analytical interpretation, and intelligent modelling. It is critical for the future development of the ICB's data warehouse and associated reports.
Key responsibilities
- Support development and maintenance of data engineering pipelines, workflows and Snowflake apps.
- Automate processes and procedures using appropriate tools to optimise workflows.
- Implement processes to investigate data errors and identify sources of variations.
- Monitor and audit data quality, working with colleagues to improve information quality.
- Manage and maintain the data dictionary for the department, covering datasets, sources, and frequency.
- Develop and maintain relationships with data providers and analytics service teams to gather requirements for new data feeds.
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree in mathematics, IT or equivalent level of NHS experience
- Evidence of continuous professional development regarding data handling, processing and storage
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
- Thorough understanding of current information issues and requirements in the NHS, including understanding of national dataset
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of information governance and data confidentiality standards
- Knowledge of quality improvement approaches
- Experience of undertaking audits
- Significant demonstrable information management and technology experience
- Experience of data acquisition, ingestion, storage and processing of data within a data warehouse
- Experience of using various information analysis techniques and tools such as advanced excel, SQL, Snowflake, Tableau and PowerBI
- Experience of documenting complex procedures
- Experience of using GITHu
- Experience of using DevOps
- Able to analyse highly-complex specialist information and display the ability to explain findings and resolve any issues
- Ability to interpret information received and react appropriately
- Ability to scope information requirements with non-technical staff and translate this into a detailed requirement specification for development
- Ability to apply LEAN thinking methodologies to information collection and reporting to ensure efficiency is driven out of these procedures
- Skills for communication on complex information and administrative matters, requiring developed interpersonal and oral/ written communication skills

Junior Data Engineer

Job summary
The post holder will be responsible for the regular collection, storage and processing of data required by West and North London ICB. The post-holder will be required to design the processes used to refresh the data and keep a register detailing all the data sources with detailed data definitions and latency. They would have the overall responsibility to communicate on data availability to analytics and any delays with data delivery.
This post will be set within the Data Engineering and Data Management team working collaboratively with other colleagues to integrate datasets into our data warehouse and run data quality checks. This will require the post-holder to lead on the development of pipelines to ingest data into the data warehouse and to adapt the pipelines as changes are made to data specification.
The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the development of a performance-focused culture where safety, effectiveness and patient experience are consistently delivered through the provision of high-quality information, analytical interpretation, benchmarking, forecasting and intelligent modelling.
