Role summary

This is an opportunity for an experienced and motivated Band 3 Nursing Support Worker to join the Admissions Unit at Royal Glamorgan Hospital. The role involves working on a 14-bedded adult assessment and treatment ward for mental health patients. The successful candidate will collaborate with qualified staff to deliver high-standard, person-centred care and will experience diverse mental illnesses affecting working-age individuals.

Essential criteria

  • Good communication skills - verbal, non-verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and sensitively

Desirable criteria

  • Welsh Language Speaking & Listening Skills (Level 3 and above/B2)
  • Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW).
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting for example the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe, and confidentiality for example General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
  • Experience of working within a mental health environment in heath or social care, providing direct patient care
  • Experience of working with patient groups relevant to area of practice.
  • Ability to demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach.
  • Physically able to carry out the duties of the role, including lifting, assisting with mobility, implementing restraint (if required) and performing other manual tasks.
  • Ability to use technology to undertake the role, for example Microsoft Office, virtual platforms such TEAMS.
  • Organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise own and others workload efficiently.
  • Have NVQ Level 3 or equivalent competence gained through experience and supervision
  • Ability to be able to complete certified /accredited physical intervention training, for example Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) during induction.

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated Band 3 Nursing Support Worker to join our team on Admissions Unit based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

We are a 14 bedded adult assessment and treatment ward providing person centred care for people suffering with mental health problems.

The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with the qualified to ensure that a high standard of care is maintained across the unit, and be expected to demonstrate a genuine interest in this field of nursing, displaying excellent people skills such as communication. They will be expected to work as part of a team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality person-centred patient care.

Staff working within this environment are afforded the opportunity to experience diverse mental illnesses which effect those of working age.
