Role summary
This role is for an Assistant Management Accountant within the award-winning Finance team at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will support a Finance Business Partner in providing high-quality financial information, advice, and support to clinical divisions. Key responsibilities include assisting with monthly financial reporting, variance analysis, budget production, and providing financial training to ward/department managers. The position is vital for ensuring effective resource management and robust financial control.
Essential criteria
- Good written and verbal communication skills, good interpersonal skills
- Methodical approach with an attention to detail and good levels of accuracy
- Ability to work to strict deadlines
- Ability to communicate to a wide range of audiences, including delivering training to non-finance colleagues
- Able to provide and receive complex or contentious information which may need to be handled sensitively
- Flexible approach to fulfil duties in an environment with ever changing priorities
- Demonstrable Excel skills at an advanced level and practical experience in using spreadsheets
- Association of Accounting Technicians - Intermediate level, or equivalent experience
- Currently studying or willing to study towards a professional finance qualification
- Good general education to GCSE standard or equivalent including Maths and English
Desirable criteria
- Association of Accounting Technicians - Technician level, NVQ4 or equivalent experience with a detailed understanding of accounting procedures
- Previous experience of working in a busy finance office with an understanding of financial processes, basic accounting principles, and working within organisational policies
- Experience of collating information from a number of sources to contribute to reports
- Previous experience of working within NHS organisation and knowledge of NHS finance
- Experience of working with Oracle
- Experience of working within a management accounts role
- Experience of working with computerised ledgers & other Financial systems
- Knowledge of the NHS Constitution & 'Understanding the New NHS'
- Knowledge of basic accounting concepts and ability to use these in a management accounts role

Based in the Finance department within the hospital, the team work closely with operational colleagues to support robust financial management and control. The role advertised is vital in ensuring colleagues are able to manage their budgets effectively and confidently.
Working closely with the Finance Business Partner this is a role which is focussed on delivering high quality finance, planning and reporting information to the Surgery & Diagnostic Division and the Womens, Childrens & Specialist Services Division.
