Role summary
This Health Care Support Worker role involves providing high-quality direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse within the General Outpatients Department. The post holder will support the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care, carrying out delegated clinical and technical duties. They will contribute to maintaining a supportive environment for patients, visitors, and staff, ensuring high standards of care and participating in ongoing training. The role is crucial in supporting outpatient clinics across various specialties within the Surgery & Anaesthetics Directorate.
Key responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living.
- Assist the Registered Nurse and where appropriate other members of the Clinical Team to deliver patient care.
- Co-operate with and maintain good relationships with other disciplines that are attending and treating clients to maximise patient care.
- Report observed changes in the clients’ physical/psychological needs and participate in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records to ensure effective communication.
- Work within Divisional policies and procedures to ensure maintenance of safe working practices for patients and colleagues.
- Adhere to ward and unit procedures for the use of supplies and equipment in order to promote the effective and efficient use of resources.
Essential criteria
- Displays a caring disposition and has experience working in a caring environment/role.
- Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills/literacy/ numeracy skills.
- Ability to carry out assigned tasks effectively in a busy environment.
- Ability to fulfil the requirement of the job description including undertaking training identified as a requirement for the post.
