Role summary
This is a Team Leader role at Wathwood Hospital, a medium secure hospital, within a multi-disciplinary team. You will contribute to patient assessment, risk management, care, treatment, and recovery. Key responsibilities
- Take charge of shifts and lead a team of nurses and healthcare professionals on the ward.
- Ensure patients receive a high standard of individualised patient care which assists their recovery.
- Ensure the safety, security and wellbeing of both staff and patients are not compromised.
- Deputise for the Ward Manager to achieve required standards of practice and communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Manage allocated resources to maintain their effectiveness and efficiency.
- Participate fully as a member of a multi-disciplinary team including assessment of care needs, the development/implementation of evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards.
Essential criteria
- Accredited Mentorship Training
- 1st level registration RMN
- Relevant experience in adult mental health at band 5 or above
- Mental Health Act
- Personal appraisal and development
- Adult mental health
- Clinical supervision and staff
- Understanding of the NHS and relevant policies
- Leadership skills
- Good interpersonal and organisational skills
- Good mobility with regards to shift and service requirements
Desirable criteria
- 1st degree or diploma in related areas
- Interest in specific related field, e.g. research, clinical audit
- Work experience within secure environments in the care and treatment of mentally disordered patients

Wathwood Hospital is a regional medium secure hospital and part of the forensic care group which includes other low, medium and high secure services. We pride ourselves on providing a high standard of person-centred care.
We are seeking to recruit a Band 6 team leader to join our fantastic multi-disciplinary team. This role will contribute to the effective and safe assessment, risk management, care, treatment and recovery of our patients.
You must be able to work a 7-day week, 24-hour shift pattern, including regular night shifts. You must be an RMN registered with the NMC. Options for flexible working and part-time working are available.
You will be able to set the standard for other clinical staff and supportively lead the ward team, deputising in the absence of the ward manager. Our team leaders take responsibility for the hospital out of hours providing cover on a senior nurse on site roster.
You must be able to work a 7-day week, 24-hour shift pattern, including regular night shifts. You must be an RMN registered with the NMC. Our current shift patterns are 12.5 hour shifts with some unit coordinator shifts being shorter.
