Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist to join the Manchester Airways Service for a 24-month secondment or fixed-term position. The service investigates and treats patients with breathlessness and laryngeal sensitivity, providing a tertiary level service for complex cases. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting assessment, treatment, and intervention for patients with upper airway dysfunction and complex breathlessness. The role also involves contributing to teaching, research, audit, and service development within the respiratory department.
Essential criteria
- oDegree in Speech and Language Therapy
- oHealth Professions Council Registration
- oCPD portfolio
- oPrevious NHS post graduate clinical experience, working with a broad range of disorders
- oExperience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
Desirable criteria
- oFurther relevant study in respiratory/ upper airway
- oMembership of relevant RCSLT CENs
- oKnowledge of working in a tertiary clinical service
- oInvolvement with audit and research

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist to join the Manchester Airways Service for a 24 month secondment or fixed term position.
The Manchester Airways Service investigates and treats patients with breathlessness and laryngeal sensitivity thought to be caused by problems in the throat and upper chest, or by disturbance of the normal breathing pattern. The most common conditions we diagnose and manage are Inducible Laryngeal Obstruction (ILO), Cough Hypersensitivity and Breathing Pattern Disorder.
Our service provides a tertiary level service, where patients are referred to us from both GPs and hospital consultants, regionally and nationally. We are a true multi-disciplinary team consisting of respiratory physicians, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, clinical nurse specialist, psychologists and administration support. There are currently only ten similar services in the UK.
