Role summary
This Paralegal role supports the Legal Services team, managing a varied caseload of claims, inquests, and legal advisory work under the supervision of qualified solicitors. Responsibilities include conducting investigations, preparing legal documents, and liaising with various stakeholders to ensure effective management of legal matters. The role also involves contributing to organisational learning and continuous improvement of Legal Services.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a varied caseload of claims, inquests, and legal advisory work.
- Undertake legal and factual investigations.
- Liaise with clinicians, managers, NHS Resolution, external solicitors, Counsel, and HM Coroner.
- Prepare legal documentation and support litigation and coronial proceedings.
- Contribute to organisational learning and risk management by assisting with reports and identifying themes.
- Provide support on a range of legal matters, undertake legal research, and respond to routine legal enquiries.
Essential criteria
- ILEX Diploma or equivalent knowledge and skills in NHS claims Handling
- Continuing professional development
- Knowledge of Data protection, freedom of information, Caldicott requirements
- Recent evidence of clinical negligence claims handling
- Recent evidence of public and employer liability claims handling
- Experience of advising and liaising with staff at all levels of the organisation
- Experience of collating and updating numerous complex documents
- Knowledge of NHSR guidelines in relation to clinical and non-clinical claims
- Excellent interpersonal skill
- Ability to use different styles of communication at all levels
- Knowledge and understanding of legal terminology ie Breach of Duty, Causation etc
- Planning and organising workload to meet deadlines
Desirable criteria
- ECDL and/ or equivalent qualification and/or experience
- Experience of attending court proceedings

Job summary
This role is a key member of the Legal Services team, supporting the delivery of a high-quality in-house legal service across a broad range of clinical and non-clinical matters.
