Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Specialist Dietitian to join the acute adult dietetic team at University Hospital Southampton. The role focuses on complex nutrition support for intestinal failure and colorectal patients, providing oral, enteral, and parenteral nutrition advice. You will work across inpatient and outpatient settings, leading dietetic care for colorectal surgery patients and contributing to multidisciplinary teams. The position encourages professional development and involvement in service improvement and supervision of junior staff.
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent in Nutrition and Dietetics
- HCPC (Health and Care professions Council) registered dietitian (RD)
- Evidence of commitment to relevant ongoing CPD and development in relevant areas
- Evidence of relevant dietetic knowledge and expertise with recent experience demonstrating this
- Ability to communicate complex information fluently, confidently and effectively to a diverse range of people: e.g., with patients, carers, managers and other health care professionals
- Ability to demonstrate a practical and sensitive approach and flexibility in working style when applying clinical judgement to complex clinical issues
- Ability to create rapport and professionally manage relationships with colleagues, patients and carers and the emotional challenges this presents
- Demonstrate a holistic approach to treatment
- Ability to cope with unpredictable events and varying clinical and non-clinical work pressures, independently planning and prioritising own workload, managing own time and meeting deadlines

- Member of British Dietetic Association (BDA) and relevant specialist groups
- Experience mentoring or supervising dietetic assistants or junior staff
- Experience and involvement with dietetic student training

Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Band 6 Dietitian with a keen interest in complex nutrition support to join our acute adult dietetic team at University Hospital Southampton.
The post will work across the intestinal failure and colorectal teams providing oral, enteral and parenteral nutrition support and advice on high output stoma management.
The post will cover primarily type 1 intestinal failure patients requiring parenteral nutrition and work as part of our Nutrition Support and Intestinal Failure multidisciplinary team. In addition, the post holder will be the dietetic lead for colorectal surgery, following patients throughout their journey as inpatients and outpatients with a weekly colorectal outpatient clinic part of the role.
