Role summary
This Band 3 Decontamination Technician role is based in a JAG accredited Endoscopy unit, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. You will be responsible for decontaminating endoscopes, adhering to strict IPC and JAG guidelines, and liaising with internal and external authorised persons. The role also involves completing paperwork, ensuring traceability of scopes, and supporting training for other staff in decontamination processes.
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in a healthcare environment (at least six months experience)
- Ability to understand the importance of confidentiality and to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Demonstrates good interpersonal skills
- Able to communicate clearly, verbally and written
- Acute hospital healthcare experience
Desirable criteria
- Has an understanding/awareness of the Data Protection Act
- Has an understanding of basic health care requirements
- Has an understanding of infection prevention within a care setting
- Qualifications & Professional Training
- GCSE in English and Maths
- Functional Skills Numeracy, Literacy, Communication Level 1
- Level 2 QCF/NVQ Health & Social Care
- Level 2 QCF/NVQ Clinical Healthcare Support
- Basic IT Skills.

- Good verbal/communication skills - ability to articulate to internal and external team members
- Have the ability to deal with members of the public from many diverse groups
- Good telephone manner
- To be able to assist patients to move using appropriate aids on a frequent basis
- To be able to transport patients using wheelchair/trolley or bed on a frequent basis. This will occur for short periods frequently throughout a normal shift and will require moderate effort
- Frequently be able to deal with patients and relatives during distressful situations.
- Willingness to learn new skills and apply in the workplace
- To deal with competing demands for attention with frequent interruptions
- Good communication skills
- Engage in continuous professional development
- Ability to form positive working relationships

Main duties of the job
- There is an exciting opportunity to join our JAG accredited Endoscopy unit. The endoscopy unit is a fast-paced area with 4 procedure rooms.We undertake diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (upper GI, lower GI, and respiratory procedures).
