Role summary
This role involves joining a well-established Clinical Education team within Emergency Medicine. The facilitator will support the delivery, coordination, and evaluation of clinical education programs, enhancing the clinical competence of healthcare professionals through training, simulation, supervision, and assessment. The position requires strong clinical knowledge of emergency medicine, excellent communication, and facilitation skills to engage diverse learners in a fast-paced environment. It also involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to design educational initiatives that improve patient safety and clinical performance.
Key responsibilities
- Be a visible presence in clinical areas, working clinically alongside and supervising learners.
- Deliver training on new devices and monitor progress through record keeping.
- Coordinate teaching sessions, support simulation-based training, mentor learners, and assist in assessing clinical competencies.
- Guide senior staff and practice assessors/supervisors to ensure robust induction and orientation for students and learners.
- Work closely with new starters, especially newly qualified professionals, in classroom and clinical supervision settings to support their induction.
- Maintain expert clinical knowledge and skills to cascade to others.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse registered with the NMC
- Undertaken Practice Assessor training
- Degree in relevant field
- Triage Qualification e.g. MTS or ED Acuity
- Level 3 Resuscitation (ILS or equivalent)
- Significant post-registration experience within an Emergency Medicine setting, including experience at Band 5 or Band 6 level.
- Recent experience of working with students, learners or newly qualified staff in practice
- Experience delivering teaching, training or presentations
- Current clinical credibility at senior level
- Evidence of ability to manage sensitive and complex information and situations
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
- Knowledge of pre-registration Health Science programmes and professional bodies (NMC and HCPC) standards relating to education
- Confident and calm attitude with an ability to work under pressure
- Good organisational & team building skills
- Demonstrates effective leadership qualities
- Ability to teach, assess and supervise others
- Willing to work in all clinical areas to support learners and clinical staff
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Willing to work flexibly to cover the needs of the service. This may include evenings and weekends.

Desirable criteria
- Professional Nurse Advocate or committed to work towards
- Post-graduate Certificate in Education or equivalent; or committed to work towards
- Academic study within Emergency/Acute Medicine field
- Level 4 Resuscitation (ALS or equivalent)
- Involvement in quality improvement, research or audit activities
- Contribution with classroom/simulation based education
- Cascade trainer in one or more topics
- Experience in audit and record keeping
- Evidence of ability to function with a high degree of personal accountability and autonomy.
- Evidence of ability to manage change and challenge barriers to change
- Knowledge of coaching models
- Theory of curriculum planning
- A good understanding of current oissues relating to the NHS.
- Use of action learning and other methods of facilitating staff development
- Advanced Microsoft Office Skill (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Ability to work autonomously setting own targets and measuring performance against these targets
- Ability to use a variety of presentations skills to engage with individuals with a multitude of learning styles
