Role summary
This role is for an HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with specialist knowledge in Cellular Pathology to join the team at Cheltenham General Hospital. You will support the department during a period of maternity leave, providing a service to cancer patients and ensuring timely results. The position involves working flexibly between 8am and 7pm, with potential Saturday working, and contributing to the technical service in all areas of the Histology Laboratory.
Key responsibilities
- Work in all areas of the Histology Laboratory and be involved in provision of the technical service.
- Participate in provision of Biomedical Scientist cut-up as well as routine areas such as tissue sectioning and staining.
- Rotate through specialist areas of the laboratory such as Immunocytochemistry and Molecular Pathology.
- Ensure the Department meets cancer targets.
- Process all samples received each day, performing a wide range of tests.
- Help to maintain the turnaround times for all patient samples.
Essential criteria
- BSc(Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent
- HCPC Registration
- IBMS Specialist Diploma (or equivalent)
- Specialist knowledge of Cellular Pathology
- Use of MS Office
- Competent in Histological preparatory techniques
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Prioritise workload and work to deadlines
- Ability to use own judgement and initiative

Specialist Healthcare Scientist in Cellular Pathology, Band 5
We are looking for an HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with specialist knowledge in Cellular Pathology to join our team to support the department during a period of maternity leave
You will be working with us to provide a service to cancer patients to ensure that they receive their results in a timely manner.
You will be prepared to work flexibly between the hours of 8am and 7pm and Saturday working may be required
Additional working pattern details: Extended day working is required to ensure cover until 7pm. Saturday working may be required
