Role summary
This role is for a compassionate and motivated Healthcare Support Worker (HCA) Band 3 to work in the Accident & Emergency department at Whipps Cross University Hospital. The post involves undertaking delegated clinical tasks such as patient observations, assisting with personal care, supporting nutritional needs, and performing basic procedures like blood pressure checks and ECGs. Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential for ensuring patient comfort, wellbeing, and safety. New recruits will receive support to complete Band 3 competencies within six months, initially starting at a Band 2 salary.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake a range of delegated clinical tasks, including patient observations and personal care.
- Support patients' nutritional and hydration needs.
- Perform limited delegated duties such as taking blood pressure, recording ECGs, and MRSA screening.
- Apply simple wound dressings.
- Work as an integral part of the nursing team, meeting patient and service needs under direct supervision.
- Develop essential competencies through training and practice to ensure safety and quality.
Essential criteria
- Completion of Care Certificate or equivalent.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills (English and Math's GCSEs or equivalent.)
- Evidence of ongoing personal development.
- Demonstrable experience of working in a clinical healthcare setting
- Experience of dealing with the public.
- Evidence of providing high quality care.
- To be aware of incident reporting systems and escalation processes.
- Evidence of effective interpersonal skills.
