Role summary
This Finance Assistant role supports the Financial Accounts team in maintaining the integrity of the Trust's banking reconciliations, cash flow forecasts, general ledger, and associated feeder systems. The post holder will ensure timely and accurate payment processing, complete reconciliations, prepare journals, and maintain financial records in accordance with Trust instructions and statutory requirements, including VAT. The role also involves providing information and working papers for internal and external audits. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract.
Essential criteria
- oCompleted AAT level 3 (or equivalent level of competence and expertise gained from working experience).
Desirable criteria
- oFull AAT membership or equivalent qualification.
- oPrevious experience working in an accounting or finance environment. oExperience of account reconciliations. oExperience of treasury management or cashbook processes. oExperience of using finance systems to input, extract and reconcile data. oExperience of working to deadlines and following financial procedures and controls.
- oPrevious NHS finance experience.
- oThorough working knowledge of basic accounting principles. oUnderstanding of financial controls, reconciliations and audit evidence requirements. oAwareness of confidentiality and information governance when handling financial information.
- oWorking knowledge of VAT principles relevant to NHS finance processes
- oStrong Excel skills, including use of formulae, lookups, pivot tables and data analysis tools. oStrong attention to detail and accuracy when processing financial transactions. oAbility to use Microsoft Office packages effectively, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook. oAbility to prepare, analyse and reconcile financial information accurately. oAbility to identify discrepancies, investigate issues and escalate where appropriate. oGood written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information clearly. oGood organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.

Job summary
