Role summary

This is an exciting full-time opportunity for a Band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant to join the Orthopaedics team at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust. The role primarily involves working with trauma orthopaedic inpatients and supporting fracture clinic services, mainly based at Queen's Hospital. The successful candidate will independently assess and discharge patients, provide advice, and work closely with the multidisciplinary team. Key responsibilities

  • Provide skilled routine, and some non-routine, clinical and non-clinical support to the Orthopaedic Therapy team.
  • Assess and discharge patients independently.
  • Provide advice and support to patients and family members.
  • Work closely with the MDT to provide evidence-based patient-centred care.
  • Adhere to protocols and guidelines set by the state registered therapist, who remains responsible for monitoring patient progression and overseeing clinical quality.

Essential criteria

  • Good standard of general education, to G.C.S.E. level or equivalent
  • Evidence of recent relevant further education to N.V.Q level III standard or equivalent
  • Ability to work on own initiative and manage own caseload
  • Willing to work in community and hospital settings
  • Proven experience working as a Therapy Assistant in Health or similar post
  • Experience of working unsupervised and carrying out initial assessments
  • Team worker
  • Flexible approach

Desirable criteria

  • Computer skills to ECDL level or equivalent, or the ability to work towards ECDL
  • To have experience as a Therapy Assistant, preferably within the speciality of orthopaedics
  • Previous work in the community

Barking and Dagenham, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust (BHRUT) are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant within Orthopaedics, to join our friendly and highly skilled team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and support staff on a full-time basis.The post will include working primarily with trauma orthopaedic inpatients, as well as providing support to some fracture clinic services. The trauma service is a busy service with lots of ongoing service development opportunities. This post will be primarily based at the Queens Hospital site, however there is opportunity to work cross site at King George's if required.

You will be able to assess and discharge patients independently, as well as provide advice and support to patients and family members. They will have excellent communication and reasoning skills. The post involves close working with the MDT to provide evidence-based patient-centred care. In return you will receive regular supervision and support, as well as training and career development opportunities.The post will include weekend working.
