Role summary

This role is for a highly motivated Practice Development Practitioner in Adult Mental Health inpatient services. You will support staff and students in their professional development through clinical leadership, knowledge sharing, and modelling high professional standards. The position involves ensuring a progressive learning environment, delivering high-standard care through specialist knowledge, and implementing quality initiatives. You will also contribute to inter-professional learning and in-house teaching.

Essential criteria

  • Registration with relevant professional body. (e.g. NMC, GMC, HCPC, Social Work-England)
  • For nursing professions - Recognised Practice Supervisor and /or Practice Assessor, clinical educator or equivalent
  • And - Trained in providing clinical supervision
  • For other professions - evidence of training in clinical supervision of other staff and able to demonstrate competence in this area of practice in clinical supervision of other staff and/or students/ trainees.
  • And have - Equivalent clinical experience to that of a Post Grad Diploma/master's level such as working as a band 6 (or above) in relevant clinical area with significant experience (see below under experience), together with evidence of relevant CPD
  • Leadership qualification or willingness to work towards. Qualification must be achieved within agreed timescale.
  • Substantial clinical experience of working in relevant specialist area in collaboration with service users, families and relevant others or transferable experience of similar settings and willing to gain knowledge within first 12 months.
  • Experience of assessing and managing risk (harm to self, others and safeguarding)
  • Substantial experience of working in a multi disciplinary team

  • Sound knowledge of principles of nursing and how to apply these in a practice setting
  • Significant evidenced based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
  • Good understanding of relevant legislation and guidance (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, CPA, Safe Staffing) and its application in practice.
  • Good understanding of clinical governance and its application in practice.
  • Good understanding of Recovery principles and application in practice
  • Detailed understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice.
  • Detailed understanding of Care Programme Approach and its application in practice.
  • Detailed understanding of Clinical Risk Assessment and Management/Harm Minimisation and its application in practice.
  • Research and development methodology.
  • Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment.
