Role summary
The Treatment Team Practitioner will act as the Treatment Team Nurse, working within a multidisciplinary team to administer anti-psychotic medication, provide ECT treatment, and monitor the physical health of patients in secondary mental health services. This role involves facilitating Clozapine clinics, administering injections, undertaking venepuncture and physical health checks, and participating in ECT clinics across multiple sites and GP practices. The post holder will also be involved in assessing, planning, and implementing nursing care programmes for individual clients.
Key responsibilities
- Take a lead in facilitating the day-to-day functioning of the Clozapine Clinic.
- Monitor the effects and side effects of Clozapine medication in the community.
- Administer intramuscular injections and monitor their effects, relaying accurate information to patients.
- Undertake venepuncture in the context of physical health monitoring after relevant training.
- Undertake physical health checks, interpret results, and report concerns appropriately.
- Participate in the running of the ECT clinic, including session handovers, management, and recovery of patients.
Essential criteria
- RMN
- ILS trained
- Experience of working in a mental health setting
- Experience of delivering an ECT service
- Good understanding of Mental Illness
- Knowledge of treatment and interventions appropriate for individuals with acute mental health needs
- Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, CPA process and the Mental Capacity Act
- Knowledge of current policy and guidance in relation to the development of Acute Mental Health Services and ECT
- Understanding of confidentiality and data protection issues
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Good organisational and planning skills
- Computer literate
- Good written and verbal communication skills
Desirable criteria
- ECTAS ECT nurse training completed.
- Experience of working within an acute mental health ward setting
- Training in management of violence and aggression techniques
