Role summary
This is an exciting 11-month fixed-term opportunity for an experienced and motivated Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Specialist Biochemistry team. The role involves processing routine biochemistry samples, supervising junior staff, and maintaining high standards in a diagnostic laboratory. Technologies used include FIT, Stone analysis, Electrophoresis, ELISA, and Automated Immunoassay. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:45 - 17:15, with no shift system.
Essential criteria
- HCPC approved Biomedical Science degree (BSc) or other HCPC approved degree/top ups
- HCPC registered
- Evidence of current CPD activities
- Significant previous experience in a medical laboratory
- IBMS specialist portfolio (in relevant discipline) or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- IT competency (hospital IT systems, Outlook, Microsoft)
- Experience in a large acute hospital laboratory

Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to join our team in the the Specialist Biochemistry area of Laboratory Medicine on an 11-month fixed-term maternity cover basis.
Specialist Biochemistry performs a range of automated, semi-automated and manual assays. Technologies used include Faecal Immunochemical Testing (FIT), Stone (calculi) analysis, Electrophoresis, ELISA and Automated Immunoassay.
Standard working hours are 08:45 - 17:15 Monday to Friday, and there is no requirement to take part in a shift system.
