Role summary
This is a part-time Clinical/Forensic/Counselling Psychologist role based at HMP Brixton, working within the London Pathways Partnership. The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessments and interventions for individuals with complex psychological, emotional, and personality difficulties, particularly those approaching release from prison. The role involves contributing to service development, offering supervision to junior colleagues, and working collaboratively with criminal justice partners to reduce reoffending and improve psychological wellbeing.
Essential criteria
- Postgraduate doctorate in Clinical or Forensic Psychology, or equivalent qualification such as Statement of Equivalence, leading to eligibility for Chartered status,
- Evidence of continuing professional development post-qualification

- Training in formal risk assessment Training in audit/ evaluation
- Professional development in models of desistance
- Experience of providing specialist psychological assessments and treatment interventions to patients with complex presentations including personality disorder
- Experience of working with a variety of patients reflecting a wide range of clinical severity
- Experience of working in a range of care settings, including outpatient, inpatient, prison and community
- Experience of inter-agency working including with the National Probation Service.
- Experience of teaching, training, and/or supervision
- Pre-qualification experience of working in a forensic specialism
- Knowledge and Skills
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management, including the use of theoretical models to analyse information and develop formulations upon which to base choice of treatment.
- Skills in delivering psychological interventions in individual and/or group formats, adapted to meet the needs of the individual or group.
- Skills in effective oral and written communication of complex and/or clinically sensitive information to a wide range of recipients both within and outside the NHS, including the ability to produce letters, reports, and associated documentation appropriate to its readership, and to overcome barriers to understanding and acceptance.
- Skills in providing advice and consultation to other professionals and carers.
- Ability to plan, organise and prioritise own work.
- Ability to plan and deliver teaching and training sessions; high level presentation skills.
- Postgraduate level knowledge of research methodology, including research design, and complex statistical analysis: audit skills
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult-to-treat groups (complex needs, personality disorder, dual diagnosis, substance misuse, offending).
- Knowledge of the evidence base for psychological interventions with the forensic client group.
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of CBT and one other specialised psychological therapy.
- Knowledge of the legal framework in which forensic services operate, and of other agencies and systems involved in the treatment /management and care of mentally disordered offenders.

Job summary
This is a Part-time post 0.6 WTE. There may be opportunities for an additional 0.4 WTE in the future.
This role is based oi the services delivered by London Pathways Partnership (LPP) for the national Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway service in HMP Brixton. LPP is a consortium of five NHS Trusts. All LPP services are co-delivered with criminal justice partners, and aim to reduce reoffending, improve psychological wellbeing and develop the skills and confidence of the workforce.
The London Pathways Unit (LPU) service in HMP Brixton is a residential unit for high-risk people in prison with significant psychological, emotional and personality difficulties who are approaching release. The post holder will offer assessment, interventions and desistance-focused resettlement support.
